Marcio Mendes presents: The Music of Seu Jorge
Saturday 26 February 10.30pm
Seu Jorge is a venerable Brazilian honorific music icon, his dusky baritone and charismatic stage presence made him one of the most famous Brazilian singer at the actuality.
Seu Jorge has gained exposure through his work as an actor and soundtrack composer. He appeared in the critically acclaimed 2002 film City of God as Mané Galinha, directed by filmmaker Fernando Meireles, and then played Pelé dos Santos in Wes Anderson’s The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, for which he provided much of the soundtrack in the form of Portuguese Language cover version of David Bowie classics. Bowie later went on to say about Seu’s cover album, The Life Aquatic Studio Sessions, that “had Seu Jorge not recorded my songs in Portuguese I would never have heard this new level of beauty which he has imbued them with.”
Marcio Mendes is a talented Brazilian musician (sax, percussion, guitar, voice) and performer based in Perth. His unique charisma, personality and sense of humour – which never seems to get lost in translation – have brought crowds to find their own ginga, dancing and shaking their bodies to Marcio’s beats in Europe, Brazil and Australia. Marcio Mendes strong bonds with the community have opened doors for him to perform in larger scale festivals alongside musicians such as Jorge Ben, Tania Maria, Rachel Claudio, Katie Noonan and other very accomplished fellow musicians in Perth.
Marcio Mendes will bring you the best of Seu Jorge for this amazing concert.
