LOVE SONGS AFTER DARK: JOHN LEGEND & MAXWELL
Thursday 04 April 7.00pm
The team from Love Songs After Dark present a night of the finest music from two of R&B’s greatest male singers – John Legend and Maxwell.
Already well established from working with artists including Jay-Z, Lauryn Hill, Slum Village and Alicia Keys, John Legend’s debut album Get Lifted launched in 2004. He’s gone on to write and record popular hits including Ordinary People and the anthem of lovers across the world – All Of Me. Taking home an Academy Award and a Golden Glove for his song Glory from the movie Selma, he’s also co-produced for the Broadway stage and portrayed Jesus Christ in an NBC TV adaptation of Jesus Christ Superstar.
Alongside soul artists Erykah Badu and D’Angelo, Maxwell’s long established career led him to be one of the pioneers of Neo Soul. His initial release Urban Hang Suite in 1996 gave us memorable Neo Soul staples Sumthin’ Sumthin’ and Ascension (Don’t Ever Wonder). Over the years he would go on to release a cover of Kate Bush’s This Woman’s Work and Pretty Wings – both to critical acclaim and easily two of his most memorable recordings. His album BLACKsummers’night released in 2009 after a hiatus brought him his first Grammy for best R&B album and Best R&B Song for Pretty Wings.
Join Solomon Pitt and Bernard Kong with Elise Lynelle and Cristal Bosman, backed by an incredible band, as they host a night of the most beloved tracks from these two legendary artists.
