Let's Misbehave! The Songs of Cole Porter with Cathrine Summers

Thursday 28 September 7.00pm

Together with her quartet of some of Perth’s finest jazz musicians, Cathrine Summers presents Let’s Misbehave, the songs of Cole Porter, a unique lively sophisticated evening about, arguably, the greatest American lyricist and composer in one.  A show of delightful classics such as I Get A Kick Out of You, , I’ve Got You Under My Skin, Night and Day, De-Lovely, Let’s Do It, Let’s Fall in Love, What Is This Thing Called Love and many more.

After a slow start to his career, Cole Porter began to achieve success in the 1920s, and by the 1930s he was one of the major songwriters for Broadway musicals.

Porter’s output of over 800 songs is an amazing quantity to achieve in a lifetime and Summers respectfully and intelligently presents some of these toe-tapping favourites intertwined with tid bits of Porters conflicted, slightly risqué, acclaimed life.

Popular jazz songstress Cathrine Summers is having a huge impact on the Perth Jazz scene with her husky, smooth yet powerful voice coupled with an infectious humour and natural playful charisma that sets her apart. Summers is more than a sell-out artist at Perth’s International Fringe World Festival and busy performer at many high-profile events and functions throughout WA, she’s been described as having ‘everything which exemplifies the traditions of jazz: a stunning voice, deep feeling and enthralling stage presence.’

It’s hard not to compare Summers to vocalists such as Nancy Wilson, Diana Krall or Carmen McRae with her big vocal range, versatile style and a confidence in performing these classics that transcends genres and eras. Summers effortlessly delivers well-known classics with a natural ease that makes you feel right there in the 30’s and 40’s when these great songs were written.

Cathrine Summers Biography

She’s been described as ‘a female Michael Bublé and performed alongside the likes of Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and Marina Prior, but that doesn’t seem to faze the girl that Perth has claimed as their very own jazz songstress.

The UK-born vocalist fostered her career in Perth and over recent years has developed a reputation for delivering a voice with a rich and powerful timbre, a fun, natural stage presence, and a passion for jazz that transcends eras. She’s more than just a singer, with an audience engaging performance which is sexy, sassy and captivating.

Since her performing debut in 2008, Cathrine Summers has lit up many Perth events, festivals and has performed nationally and internationally, including sell out performances at Perth’s Fringe World. Her deep respect of the great singers of the past, her love of the Golden Era of Jazz, her European touch and her fun nature brings a new yet timeless feel to these classics.

Here’s what the experts are saying;

“The quality that sets her apart from other singers is that people of all ages feel ‘instantly familiar’ with her and soak up her banter and on-stage charisma.” The Music Review, Perth.
