Lani Melrose - WAAPA Contemporary Recital

Tuesday 03 October 7.00pm

“Don’t know whether to laugh or cry” – Patti Austin.

And haven’t the years just flown by!? (Or have they?) Join Lani as she reflects on her four years of contemporary vocal studies at the prestigious Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. Drawing on her extensive learning and most influential artists, Lani presents to you a delicious selection of tunes hand-picked from the heart, with a couple cheeky originals in the mix. Lani never thought she would find herself pursuing her musical passion, however, in an unexpected turn of events found herself bright-eyed and bushy-tailed wandering the halls of WAAPA with an ever-increasing HEX debt loitering in the shadows.

Lani has come a long way from her first ever WAAPA performance, having pulled the microphone from it’s power supply and cutting the sound. Lani stood centre-stage, shaking, blank and startled. Traumatic. This happened not once, but twice. Since then, Lani has performed both lead and backing vocals with a wide variety of ensembles across multiple genres, including cover bands and original works. These have included tributes to some her biggest influences including Jill Scott, Amy Winehouse, D’Angelo, Aretha Franklin, and various soul, neo-soul, blues, RnB, Motown and pop artists. With a passion for all things #soul, Lani aspires to bare her #soul as she performs for you an emotional rollercoaster of a showcase: honest, vulnerable, heart-breaking, uplifting and everything in between. Expect to hear tunes and re-arrangements by Snarky Puppy, Yolanda Adams, Chance The Rapper and much more.

Accompanied by a phenomenal ensemble:
