Kristian Borring Quartet

Tuesday 26 September 7.00pm

Danish guitarist and composer, Kristian Borring, has been described as a “guitarist of enormous technical ability who utilises his considerable gifts thoughtfully and tastefully, a highly accomplished guitarist and composer.” – The Jazz Mann.
Having made a name for himself on the thriving London jazz scene Borring has released 4 albums as bandleader. He has been touring the UK and abroad since his debut album in 2011.
The quartet combines high energy with nordic coolness. From hard swing to no-nonsense grooves, contemplative melodies to intricate musical interplay, Borring’s compositions show off his much praised sense of melody and colourful harmony in an adventurous playground of rhythm. Critiques have likened him to players such as Pat Metheney and he has performed and recorded with a many names over the years, including Will Vinson, Salena Jones and Archie Shepp.
“Borring has a hyper-cool and low-key approach to jazz guitar, but reprises it with warmth, confidence and a rhythmic hipness that’s thoroughly contemporary.” (The Guardian)
“Clean, cool, precise and contemporary” (The Scotsman)
“Borring’s compositions [are] both immediately attractive and enduringly impressive.” (London Jazz)
“Borring not only favours a fleet-fingered, hip swinging, soul-bop but draws as well from the subtle, gentle lyricism of guitarists such as John Abercrombie and Pat Metheny… there is an engaging brightness to his sound.” (Jazzwise)
