“A must see for all true music lovers!” ★★★★★ Fringefeed on 2020’s Shahnameh: Songs of the Persian Book of Kings

The nightingale is rumoured to never repeat itself in song — a powerful symbol for improvising musicians, and an inspiration for Kohesia Quartet. Oud, ney, daf, saz and double bass combine, performing original music and Persian melodies in an intimate musical setting. Having won the FRINGE WORLD 2020 Martin Sims Award, and a Weekly Music Award, Kohesia are back with a new Quartet show which will transport you to another place.

Presented by:
Kate Pass

Led by double bassist Kate Pass, Kohesia Ensemble serves as a platform for Kate’s original compositions, influenced by her passion for both jazz and Persian music. Kohesia Ensemble explores unusual time structures and microtonal melodies, combining the sounds of Persian and jazz instruments for a unique listening experience. Having released their debut album “Kohesia” in 2018, Kohesia Ensemble was nominated for 2018 WAM Best Album, Best Jazz Act and Best World Act. Kohesia Ensemble won the 2020 FRINGE WORLD Martin Sims Award and was also one of four acts to be shortlisted for the Award in 2019. Kohesia Ensemble has performed at an array of festivals including National Folk Festival (ACT), Illawarra Folk Festival (NSW), Fairbridge Festival, WAMFest, and Perth International Jazz Festival.
