Juliana Areias - Bossa Nova is Back in Town

Friday 23 October 7.00pm

Brazilian singer Juliana Areias, known as The Bossa Nova Baby is back in town celebrating the success of her Sydney and European tours, where she presented her Bossa Nova Baby Show at the Sydney Opera House, at the Munganga Theatre in Amsterdam and at the Ronnie Scott in London, the “Mecca” of the Jazz in Europe.

Showcasing a fine mixture of well loved bossa and samba hits such as the Girl from Ipanema and Mas que Nada, as well as her original songs, the concert presents an intimate version of the touring shows featuring a quintet formed by Juliana Areias – vocals, Paul Millard – sax/flute, Gabriel Fatin – piano and Brazilian super groovy stars Marcio Mendes – percussion/guitar and Fabio Macarrao – Drums

Juliana Areias lived for many years in Switzerland and New Zealand prior to moving to Australia. Her career includes performances at major international festivals such as the Montreux Jazz Festival, Auckland Festival, and America’s Cup (NZ), The Kings Park Festival, The Perth International Jazz Festival, New York’s exhibition “Van Gogh, Dali and Beyond” at The Art Gallery of Western Australia, and Ritmo Festival at The Darling Harbour, for over 30.000 people.

” Back in Brazil, where she was raised and given the nickname Bossa Nova Baby, Juliana Areias has been compared to Bebel Gilberto, the genre’s golden girl. Now this Sao Paulo-born singer is the toast of Perth’s jazz scene. The release of Bossa Nova Baby has elevated her above a mere covers singer or bossa specialist. The singer excels in an elegant co-composed duet (Belas Artes) with Australia’s finest Brazilian-oriented 7-string guitarist, Doug de Vries”.  – The Australian, Tony Hillier.
