John Hoffman Sextet (USA)

Monday 03 December 7.00pm

JOHN HOFFMAN, American trumpet & flugelhorn virtuoso, who has called Australia home for many years, will be briefly in Perth and we are delighted to feature him for the first time at the Ellington Jazz Club.

A fine instrumentalist, John learnt his trade through the likes of great bands of Woody Herman, Artie Shaw, Glenn Miller and Buddy Rich and so on, and has played consistently over the years “with all the greats” including Sammy Davis Jr, Frank Sinatra and Ray Charles. He followed his heart to Australia about 40 years ago, put down roots in Byron Bay, and has travelled back and forth across the Pacific since, as performer and mentor.

A review for Hoffman’s lyrical flugelhorn states that he plays in a manner “which makes other trumpet players weep”.
He will be backed by the fine line-up, comprising Simon Styles (Saxophone), Kieran Hurley (Trombone), David Martinus (Piano), Shane Pooley (Double Bass) and Michael Perkins (Drums).
