JAZZ GREATS: Ellington, Davis, Coltrane and more!

The cream of Perth’s jazz musicians will pay tribute to the jazz greats, Ellington, Davis, Coltrane, Hancock, Shorter, Mingus, Parker, Rollins and more! Come hear some of the most amazing jazz songs of all time, played by some seriously talented Perth musicians!
Jamie Oehlers is one of Australia’s leading jazz artists and saxophonists. In 2003 Jamie was the winner of the World Saxophone Competition at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and has won numerous awards in Australia, including an Australian Jazz “Bell” Award for Best Australian Jazz Artist and three for Best Contemporary Jazz Album, an ABC Limelight Award for Best Jazz CD Release, an Australian Young Achiever of the Year Award, and has twice been a finalist in the ARIA awards for Best Jazz Album. He has performed throughout the world including major festivals like the JVC Jazz Festival in New York, BBC London Jazz Festival, Jazz Yatra in India, Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, Edinburgh Jazz Festival, Villa Celimontana Jazz Festival in Rome, Galway Jazz festival, Brecon Jazz Festival, and comprehensively throughout Asia, Australia and New Zealand. He has collaborated with many great international jazz artists within Australia and overseas including performances and recordings with Ari Hoenig, Aaron Goldberg, George Garzone, Charlie Haden, Eric Harland, Reuben Rogers, Rufus Reid, Geri Allen, Cindy Blackman, Jamie Cullum, Bob Hurst, Megan Washington, Kate Ceberano and many more. Jamie has released 13 CDs as a leader, including his most recent recordings “Night Music”, “Innocent Dreamer” (with Tal Cohen), “The Burden of Memory” (with Paul Grabowsky, Eric Harland and Reuben Rogers), and “Smoke and Mirrors” (with Ari Hoenig).
Award-winning Western Australian drummer/percussionist/composer/educator/producer Daniel Susnjar is recognised internationally as a leader in the field of Jazz and Afro-Peruvian Jazz music. He has performed and recorded with world-renowned artists including Steve Miller, Gretchen Parlato, Greg Osby, Peter Bernstein, Sam Rivers, Danilo Perez, Dave Douglas, Dr G Yunupingu, Chris Potter, Hossam Ramzy, Mark O’Connor, Brian Lynch, Nicole Henry, Gary Burton, Pharrell Williams, Victor Wooten, Patti Austin, Steve Bailey, Ky-Mani Marley, Martin Bejerano, Gloria Gaynor, Geoffrey Keezer, Sammy Figueroa, Jon Secada, Kevin Mahogany, Paul Bollenback, Take 6, Dee Dee Bridgewater and Arturo Sandoval, to name a few. Alongside jazz legends Chick Corea, Bobby McFerrin, Terence Blanchard and Dave Grusin, he is featured prominently on the 2014 Sony CD/DVD release “Jazz and the Philharmonic.”
Harry Mitchell has been playing piano since the age of 8. Since then he has played in various venues around the world, including universities, schools, jazz clubs and theatres in China, Hong Kong and New York. He has performed with notable artists George Garzone, Jamie Oehlers, Julien Wilson, Carl Mackey, Troy Roberts, Matt Jodrell, Ben Vanderwal, Daniel Susnjar and Mace Francis. He has also performed with rock artists Charlie Watts (Rollingstones) and Katy Steele (Little Birdy) as well as recording with Hank Marvin (The Shadows). In 2014 he won the Woss Scholarship (best recitalist) at the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts for jazz studies, and in 2015 received first class Honours in jazz performance. In 2017 he was awarded Young Australian Jazz Musician of the year at the AUS Bell awards, as well as being awarded 2016-2017 WAM Jazz song of the year. He is currently performing regularly around Perth and across Australia a few times a year.
Zac began double bass from an early age, and gained experience playing in the various orchestras and string sinfonia in his hometown of Armidale NSW. Now based in Perth, he has performed at both the Perth and Melbourne jazz festivals and internationally in Hong Kong, Tokyo, New York, and Prague. In 2015 Zac received first class honours in jazz performance from the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts. He has worked with artists such as Peter Bernstein, Bob Hurst, Gilad Hekselman, Tal Cohen, Andrea Keller, George Garzone and Walter Smith III and is currently performing regularly with the local talents of Jamie Oehlers, Daniel Susnjar and Ben Vanderwal.
