Hetty Kate Quartet feat. Russell Holmes

Saturday 05 December 7.00pm

“Hetty Kate’s voice overflows with a natural musicality..” Richard Fields 3CR Radio
“Like Peggy Lee on a Vespa..” Marc Myers Jazzwax USA

Known for her pure tone, pitch and timing, Hetty Kate has quickly become a popular jazz vocalist across Australia. With her classic sound, Hetty is often compared to the iconic swing singers of the 1940s and 50s, a young Peggy Lee or Doris Day, and has been cited as “one of the best swing-style vocalists on the current scene..” by prominent jazz researcher, author and critic Will Friedwald (NYC, 2015). Recently dividing her time between Europe and Australia, Hetty has spent the last two years as part of James Morrison’s quintet, and is the featured vocalist in his symphony concert ‘A Journey Through Jazz’ which can be seen here in Perth with WASO during the first week of December. This award winning concert has seen her sing with the Melbourne, Tasmanian and Sydney Symphony Orchestras as well as the Christchurch, Auckland and Hong Kong Philharmonic.

Hetty has released eight albums, with two new albums on the way for early 2016. Her most recent album was released through ABC Jazz / Universal and distributed in Australia, New Zealand and Japan. She has sung for audiences in North and South America, Asia and Europe and has been invited to perform for festivals in Korea, America, Japan, New Zealand and Australia. The Ellington is one of her favourite clubs in Australia, and she is excited to be joined by celebrated pianist Russell Holmes and his band for this show.

This show will feature her favourite selection of classics and curios from The Great American Songbook, as well as a selection of songs from her upcoming albums for release in 2016.
