Gareth Hughes: Different Directions

Tuesday 23 January 7.00pm

Gareth Hughes is a London-based guitar/bass player and composer originally from Perth. Returning briefly in 2018, he will be performing a one-off Ellington gig showcasing his own original compositions, and arrangements written since moving to the UK in 2012.

Since settling in London Gareth has established himself as a successful freelance multi-instrumentalist, performing throughout the UK at venues such as Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, the Hammersmith Apollo, Birmingham Symphony Symphony Hall and Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.

Stylistically, Gareth’s music falls somewhere between the solo guitar playing of Tommy Emmanuel, and the country / jazz crossover explorations of Pat Metheny, Bill Frisell, Marc Johnson and Charlie Haden. The night will feature music for solo guitar and larger ensemble.

Gareth Hughes – electric and acoustic guitar

Jon Clements – electric, acoustic and pedal steel guitar
Adam Springhetti – banjo
Pete Jeavons – bass
Elliot Smith – drums
