Françoise and Friends

Monday 19 October 7.00pm

The 2020 sell-out Fringe show Françoise and Friends returns to the Ellington this October. Join jazz vocalist Sylvia Cornes (and her friends) in paying homage to the queen of French pop, Françoise Hardy and her contemporaries of the yé-yé style.

Yé-yé music, often referred to as the French equivalent of the British Invasion, was the sound that dominated France in the 1960s. Hardy became a leading figure of the yé-yé movement with the release of her hit tune ‘Tous Les Ģarcons et Les Filles’ in 1962. Since its release Hardy went on to record chart topping singles such as ‘Les Temps De L’Amour’ and ‘Comment to dire Adieu’.  Hardy remains active in the music scene to this day and has received praise from musicians such as Bob Dylan, Miles Davis and Mick Jagger.

This performance will feature some of Hardy’s greatest hits combined with jazzy arrangements of iconic ye-ye bops performed by Gillian Hills, Brigitte Bardot, France Gall and Anna Karina. The show will also feature iconic French chansons and a surprise guest performer.

Featuring a spectacular line up of local jazz talent, this show will have you transported back in time to Paris in the 1960’s!

Sylvia Cornes is an emerging writer and performer from Perth. Sylvia has performed locally and nationally at Fringe World (Perth and Sydney) and the King Street Corner Pocket Festival.
