Danny Moss Jnr and Friends

Sunday 24 September 7.00pm

Fresh from his European Tour and a sold out run at Ronnie Scott’s Club in London, Danny Moss Jnr is returning to The Ellington!

Danny Moss Jnr’s big toned, swinging bass playing is highly regarded by his peers on the International Jazz Scene. An unashamed disciple of the great Ray Brown time, tone, swing, and variation of lines are the hallmarks of his playing. He has played at most of Europe’s major Jazz Festivals inc, Berlin, Munich, Hof, Edinburgh, Brecon, Vienna etc. and recorded with world renowned artists including his illustrious parents Danny Moss M.B.E. and Jeanie Lambe, as well as Sir John Dankworth, Martin Drew, Scott Hamilton, Tony Coe, Don Burrows. and John Wheatley.

Tonight’s swinging programme will include music from the likes of Ellington, Basie, Porter, Gershwin, Arlen, Pettiford, Brown etc. Plus a healthy serving of the Blues!

Danny Moss Jnr’s bass playing channels the driving and deeply swinging ethos of his main influence Ray Brown.
His quartet’s recent show at Ronnie Scott’s took the capacity crowd for quite a ride!
Danny doubtless learned his craft from his famous parents, mighty tenor saxophonist Danny Moss and dynamic singer Jeanie Lambe who both had stellar international careers.
Fiercely swinging from the first note, the group quickly shifted into high gear. On the menu were classic standards, tunes penned by masters Ellington, Monk, Montgomery, and Pettiford, as well as soulful ballads and blues.
Danny’s rich, propulsive bass lines underpinned his superb colleagues who are out of the top drawer.  Dave Chamberlain’s guitar excites and is brimming with fertile ideas. Leon Greening as always a tour de force on the Steinway, and elegant, crisp time from Matt Fishwick’s drums.
If dynamic, swinging invention is your dish.. look no further!
Highly recommended if you can catch them on the circuit.
