A Tribute to Diana Krall Live In Paris ft. Lucy Iffla and The Island Trio

Sunday 11 October 6.00pm

Diana Krall, (born November 16, 1964, Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada), Canadian jazz musician who achieved crossover success with her sultry, unforced contralto voice and her piano playing. Krall’s first album, Stepping Out, was released in 1993, and her breakthrough came three years later with All for You, a tribute to Nat King Cole that spent more than a year on the jazz best-seller lists. She gained a wider audience with When I Look in Your Eyes (1999), for which she also received her first Grammy Award. Later albums include The Look of Love (2001) and the concert recording Live in Paris (2002). The latter won a Grammy for best jazz vocal album. On The Girl in the Other Room (2004), Krall for the first time included some of her own compositions as well as songs written or cowritten by British singer-songwriter Elvis Costello, whom she had married in 2003. Her later albums include Christmas Songs (2005); From This Moment On (2006), a compilation of standards; Quiet Nights (2009), an experiment with bossa nova; Glad Rag Doll (2012), an exploration of lesser-known jazz tunes beloved by her father; and Wallflower (2015), a collection of light rock covers.
Lucy is currently in her first year at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) completing a Bachelor of Music specialising in Jazz.
Over the past few years, as a Vocalist alongside the MLC Jazz Band, in both national and international festivals and competitions, Lucy’s passion for singing and performing flourished. These performances include the 48th Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, Summa Cum Laude Festival in Vienna and the World Choir Games in Latvia, where the Choral and Barbershop were awarded a Silver Medal in 2015.
In 2016, Lucy competed in the Rising Star Quartet Competition and the Pan Pacific Harmony Festival in Auckland, an international convention that draws the world’s best female, barbershop a cappella groups to compete in a fierce worldwide competition. The FilleHarmonics a cappella, placed 6th and 7th in this challenging arena.
Around Perth, Lucy’s performances include, the 2016 Claremont Arts Festival opening for Clare Bowditch, several Abode Jazz Festivals, the 2015 and 2016, Cottesloe Street Festivals and has performed at various local venues and functions, including the 2016 Freshwater Bay Yacht Club Harry Perkin’s Institute fundraiser.
Her persona has been described as charismatic, warm and passionate. She takes inspiration from the soulful sounds of Ella Fitzgerald and the raw tones of Diana Krall.
This Island Trio is one of the hardest swinging Piano trios in Perth, named after the beautiful Perth Location ‘The Island’ in Elizabeth Quay they have fostered their sound through an appreciation of the American Song Book and Jazz Tradition. They have performed at The Corner Pocket Jazz Festival (Perth), Into The Blue (Japan) and Muse (Japan) and their favorite local The Island Elizabeth Quay.
