A Celebration of the Modern NYC Jazz Scene

Monday 27 November 7.00pm

Although the old legends of jazz are celebrated regularly, it is fairly uncommon for the current scene to have proper notice taken of it. So little, in fact, that some go so far as to proclaim that ‘jazz is dead’, or to anoint various ‘saviors of jazz’ in lieu of what they perceive as a void in musical development.

This is simply untrue, and it only takes a little exploration to find that the jazz scene is as strong and innovative as it has ever been. This show will take a snapshot of the current scene in New York City, the Mecca of jazz, and will showcase a diverse range of pieces from the likes of Walter Smith III, Will Vinson and Kurt Rosenwinkle.

Inspired in part by the documentary ‘New York Jazzed Out’, and featuring some of Perth’s most exciting musicians, this is sure to be an engaging evening of music.

Dylan Hooper – Saxophone
Harry Mitchell – piano
Jeremy Thomson – guitar
Karl Florisson – bass
Ben Vanderwal – drums
